resource: be your own guide
When I was a child I used to write a letter to myself, with any reminders for the following day and leave it on the kitchen table for myself to find the next morning. It would say things like “don’t forget to pack your basketball shoes” or “good luck on your math test!” and it was always signed “Love, Jessica”.
Not much has changed. While I don’t leave myself a note every night, I do leave messages, reminders, quotes, images that make me feel connected & inspire me up around me in my workspace. I like to create a workspace that is a womb of sorts, a nurturing, supportive, comforting, messy, honest, safe, homey, and incubating environment.
I believe in being my own guide, my past self to my future self. There are, of course, always people one can learn from along the way, but the truth is the journey begins and ends with me. So building a relationship with myself has always felt important to me.
So, in an effort to give you what I attempt to give myself on a daily basis, here is a free gift from me to you. Below you can download 30 inspirational, supportive, creative prompts to put on your computer as desktop backgrounds. On my computer, I have a folder labeled “inspiration” and I collect quotes that inspire me, aphorisms to make me feel supported, and artwork that i find beautiful and I let my desktop change from this folder of images and cycle through the growing archive of guidance for myself back to myself. I created these desktop images to give you something similar and a place to start in building your own library.
I hope they help you develop a habit of doing the same for yourself.
